Bucket Collection for Macmillan - Monday 9th April, Maine Rd

FC United regularly receive requests for support of charitable causes and we are always glad to respond, when we can. On Monday 9th April 2007 there will be a bucket collection outside Gigg Lane for Macmillan Cancer Care. Below is a short piece from the FC supporter who’s kindly taken time for a worthy cause.

BAE Systems Samlesbury collection for Macmillan cancer care.

Where’s Samlesbury you might ask? Well it’s between Preston and Blackburn. Why collect at an FC United game? Simple, hundreds of us were relocated there when the BAE factory at Chadderton closed down two years ago.

The football mix consisted of Reds, Bitters and a few yonners, the mix now includes "Rovers,"?? "North End,"?? scousers and evertonians. There are a handful of us in Airbus 2 Shed that follow FC too.

Every two years the workers in BAE Systems (or British Aerospace as we used to be known) choose a charity that most of our monies raised for charity will go to. Our nominated charity for the next year or so is Macmillan cancer care who support people living with cancer.

We’ve also support other charities like the Downs Heart Group who support families who find out that as well as their baby being Downs Syndrome they also have cardiac problems. In June we’re having a trade show on site where all monies raised will go to Macmillan, the DHG, Lancashire Air Ambulance and a local children’s hospice.

I won’t go on about the worthiness of Macmillan and the great work they do because all of us have been touched at some time by someone who’s died of cancer so you know the score.

If you can spare some money please throw in one of the collectors buckets before the Maine Rd . Thanks!

Alan Quinn, aircraft fitter, BAE Systems Samlesbury.
