Ask Me I'll Tell You: Adam Dodd

He’s the marauding wing-back who is an absolute machine regularly topping the yards run statistics, making 41 appearences and 6 goals each time giving it 'the strut', but did you know he likes to 'get emotionally invested' in films, and 'died' on-stage in Blackpool? No? Then read on... Q: What's your daytime occupation?  I've been a plumber for the last 4 years, I was on a contract at Chorley and when I left there in 2016 and was lucky to be able to go to work for my old man's business; I always said to him that when I was a full time professional footballer I'd never be a plumber and when I started working for him I said 'I can't do this', on the second day I got taught how to change a radiator and I couldn't do it to save my live but then I took to it really well; I really enjoy it as it's never the same thing so you're always doing something different every day. Since I returned from furlough I've been grafting like never before, we've never been so busy. Q: How else are you occupying yourself during the lockdown? I've been doing a few 5k runs and the lads have all been putting their times in to keep it competitive, and there's a field near my house so I've been having a kickabout with a few mates, within the social distancing rules, it's been a joy to kick a ball around again. Q: Do you watch any programmes with your partner that you secretly like but wouldn't admit to her that you do? Selling Sunset, it's about these women who sell houses in Los Angeles and get a cut of the sale, it's a complete girls programme, the houses they sell are worth millions and the people on the show literally spend their time bickering about each other. Q: Favourite all-time television show (apart from the one you secretly love that your missus 'makes' you watch): Game of Thrones, I started watching that and it was brilliant, I'd identify most with Jon Snow as he's the main man and the alpha-male but I also really like Lord Tyrion because he's really funny. Q: What's the worst self inflicted injury you've had? I've never really had anything self-inflicted but my worst injury is shoulder as I've had two operations on it after it became dislocated, I tore the labrum ( Dr Grisly explains :"The labrum is the cup-shaped rim of cartilage that lines and reinforces the ball and socket joint of the shoulder, which is comprised of the glenoid - the shallow shoulder socket - and the head, or ball, of the upper arm bone known as the humerus. The labrum is the attachment site for the ligaments and supports the ball and socket joint along with the rotator cuff tendons and muscles. It contributes to shoulder stability and, when torn, can lead to partial or complete shoulder dislocation. ")  playing footy, I dislocated it the first time after the tear so I had to have that stitched back up then I had to go for further surgery and they had to take bone from the front of my shoulder and attach it to my socket, then put two bolts through it. The surgeon had done work on Amir Khan (Boxer) and Shay Given (former Newcastle GK) so I knew I was in good hands. It was years ago and so far it's been right. Q: Best music gig you have ever seen and why? I'd have to say I was in Las Vegas with my pals and we'd just gone to a nightclub for the evening, I wasn't expecting anyone to be performing and Big Sean was playing live and he sang one of my favourite songs so I couldn't complain, it was all a complete surprise which just added to it. Q:Guilty pleasures time: Food I've been treating myself to a few takeaways during the lockdown and I'm really into Thai food at the moment so it would have to be sweet and sour crispy duck with egg-fried rice, with some prawn crackers and a load of chocolate, I'm a proper chocoholic Drink I like a my red wine so I'd be having a glass of Châteauneuf-du-Pape if I'm being specific Q: Last film you saw? '13 Hours' about US Soldiers in Libya protecting this compound, they didn't know who was on their side as the battle raged, it's based on a true story which I really like because I can get emotionally invested in it Q: Biggest fashion faux pas? Well I've still got them as I like them but they're these silver D&G trainers, they were really expensive and the first time I wore them in front of the FC lads and I got a few 'It's the return of the Space Cowboy' shouts but I took it on the chin, I still wear them because I like them and they're comfy. Q: What team do you support? My family are all big Preston North End fans so when I was growing up I used to go and watch them quite a bit, but I don't actively support anyone apart from FC. Q: Ok well let's say you're playing for Preston's biggest rivals Blackpool against Preston, you've got an open goal in front of you, it's the last minute of the game and scoring sees Blackpool win the title and relegates Preston - what would you do? Oh yeah I'd score and if my dad was there I'd do the strut right in front of him and then put my finger to my lips and go 'sshhhh', I'd absolutely milk it! Q: What would his reaction be? My dad gives me stick anyway so I think he'd take it in good humour... Q: Favourite FC moment so far? There's been a few good'uns, this is a tough question, there was Buxton and Warrington at home when Curtis scored but I loved the 3-2 against Lancaster, that was a big moment as they had a few players that myself, Regan and Pottsy know from Bamber Bridge so there's always been a bit of needle there, always wanting to get one up on each other and when that goal went in it went off big style, loved it. Q: Would you ever consider becoming a referee if you had a good chance of making a career out of it? Probably not, mainly because I would want to be involved in the action, and I couldn't be neutral. Q: The first half hasn't gone well, Reno is raging with the performance, he's just kicked a football boot into one of the other players face - are you eyeballing him or looking at the floor hoping he doesn't pick on you? Ha ha, I've seen him lose it a couple of times but I eyeball him, just so he knows that I'm listening and that if it's gone bad in the first half he knows that me and the other lads are going to put it right in the second. When he went off at Runcorn I wasn't surprised because we know our standards and we know what we expect from each other when we step out on that pitch, we knew it wasn't good enough so when we went out for the second half we knew we had to turn it around. Q: Is there any FC player/staff  that you wouldn't want to room with and why? There's not one I wouldn't want to room with to be honest, I've seen a few of the older players say they wouldn't want to room with the younger ones but as long as I get a good night's sleep I'm alright, I couldn't say there's one I wouldn't room with. Q: if you could play another position on the team what would you fancy? Probably the #10 behind the striker, I've played there many times before and that was my position when I was at Blackpool, I also played left back there too so I was quite versatile, I'd be a good link-up player and I'd get Tunde on the scoresheet more times! Q: What's your favourite part of playing football? I love the game! This lockdown has really made me appreciate how much I love the game, add the camaraderie and banter in the changing room too, we live in each others pockets for most of the year and I really like the fact that everyone takes it seriously, we have a great laugh but we also want to win things, you can't beat winning things and I never ever get bored with winning. Q: Record for keepy-ups (kick ups etc)? Unlimited, I could go all day. Q: How many press-ups can you do before your arms start trembling like a dog doing its business? I'd say around 100 before burning out, and I've done the 'Bring Sally Up' challenge which is really hard, I think that only Charlie Ennis and Chris Almond have done it apart from me. Q: Any one handed ones? I think I can match Fin's 30! Q: Do you have any talents or abilities other than on the pitch? A lot of people say that I'm a decent singer but I'm a bit of a one-trick pony because my initiation song has always been 'Ain't no Sunshine' by Bill Withers, everyone who's heard me sing it says I'm really good but I don't like hearing myself sing. Q: What's the worst initiation you've ever had to do when joining a new team? I had to do one when I was 16 at Blackpool, it was an FA cup game against Southampton and they took a few of the Youth Team down, all the other young players sang in pairs or small groups but I did 'Ain't no sunshine' on my own and it went well, so much so that at Blackpool's End of the Season Evening I got bullied into going up on stage on a microphone and I ended up choking a bit, was out of rhythm with the music as I'd not rehearsed it and that was on stage in front of about 400 people, so that wasn't good.
