Statement from Bacup Borough

STATEMENT FROM BRENT PETERS & MICHAEL CARR (BACUP BOROUGH FC)

The game between Bacup Borough FC and FC United was a tremendous occasion. Every effort was made by the Club to ensure that supporters attending the game were able to enjoy it and were safe and secure while with us. This was the case during the game. We have the utmost respect for FC United and their supporters. The staff of FC United were extremely helpful as we planned for the game. During the game their supporters were tremendous, created a brilliant atmosphere and brought us our best crowd for years.

Unfortunately outside the ground a very nasty incident occurred in which a supporter of FC United was attacked and injured by one or more of a group of young thugs.

We deplore this vicious and indefensible act. The perpetrators of this crime had absolutely nothing to do with Bacup Borough Football Club. They did not attend this game, nor have they ever attended any game here. We hope that they receive the punishment they deserve for such a vicious and cowardly attack. We send our best wishes to the injured man and hope he recovers quickly. We deeply regret that this incident has cast a shadow over what had been until then a largely trouble-free day, with the vast majority of fans having a great day out.

Fans of FC United are welcome here at West View any time. Please do not judge the people of our town by the unforgivable actions of a very small number of mindless morons.
