Construction companies help FC United build bid-writing skills

Construction companies help FC United build bid-writing skillsFC United of Manchester has tapped into some expert help with the aim of winning more grants and sponsors for the community programmes it runs.

The club teamed up with construction companies Seddon Construction and Willmott Dixon to learn from their wealth of experience and expertise in writing bids.

The two contractors attended a workshop with the FCUM team to share advice and tips, and improve the club’s ability to secure grants and sponsorship.

FC’s Operations Manager, Paul Smith said: “We are well known for our community involvement with high-profile initiatives, such as the annual Big Coat Day where we collect warm clothing for the homeless, and opening our doors to local families in hardship on Christmas Day.

“In fact these are just two of the many community benefits we provide all year round, but we need to obtain more grants and community sponsors to pay for these fantastic community programmes.”
“We hugely appreciate the help we’ve been given by Seddon Construction and Willmott Dixon to help us win more funding – a great example of collaboration between the private sector and our club combining to provide real community benefits.”

FC United linked up with the two contractors via the North West Construction Hub, run by Manchester City Council. The hub brings together construction companies and public sector organisations to work as long-term partners on contracts.

Construction companies must submit bids to become part of the hub’s roster of contractors, and to be accepted must demonstrate evidence of delivering high quality community benefit work.
“This link-up makes great sense for us as a community club,” added Vinny Thompson FC’s Community Liaison Officer
“We’d like to thank Katy Harris from Seddon and Stefan Hnylycia from Willmott Dixon for sharing their time and expertise on bid writing to help our community efforts.”
