Point for discussion: a look back on Reynolds’ first two games

After another battling performance at home to Alfreton on Tuesday night, we take a look at what we learned from Neil Reynolds’ second game in charge of FC United.

Two points out of a possible six almost certainly paints an unfair picture for Reynolds and the boys since the start of his short tenure.

After two consecutive solid home performances within a few days of one another, the players seem to have taken to Reno’s free flowing style of play.

This was shown within the first five minutes of Tuesday’s game when the Reds stormed out of the blocks creating plenty of chances from all angles.

Reno’s two new signings have made an instant impact and seem to be certain starters in the first XI in this kind of form.

New captain Mike Potts opened his account against Brackely Town on Saturday, whilst Josh Wallen headed home his first goal in the opening 20 minutes against Alfreton Town – positive signs indeed for the new recruits.

The decision to bring in the two midfielders, and give Potts the armband, appears to be a wise decision based on the past two matches.

England C team striker Kurt Willoughby’s return to the starting line-up, following a questionable red card earlier this month, was a welcome sight for all fans at Broadhurst Park last night.

The attacker looked lively, despite his recent suspension, creating many chances and being involved in the majority of the attacking play.

A win would have moved us out of the relegation zone but the draw leaves us just two points from safety.

However the signs are clear. Since the announcement and appointment of Neil Reynolds as our new manager, we are unbeaten. Over the past three matches we taken points against two of the top sides in the division and kept rivals closer to us in the table at arm’s length.

Although it may be early days under Reynolds, one thing we have learned is that this side has the quality to compete.
