Midweek Victory at Victoria Park for FC's Women over Nelson FC Ladies

Midweek Victory at Victoria Park for FC’s Women over Nelson FC Ladies Nelson FC Ladies, formed in 2016 and plying their trade in the Lancashire League, a division below FC, hosted an in form United side who used the midweek training night match to sharpen their one and two touch game in readiness for the pending campaign.

The result, a 16-0 victory, was secondary to the gelling of the team and wider squad and every credit to Nelson also who will have taken a lot from the game as they head towards their own season opener in early September.

For significant periods United’s interplay was consistently sublime and all played their part in a complete performance, leading 7-0 at the break courtesy of goals from Fran Sullivan, Ella Schickhoff, a brace from Kirsty Chambers and hatrick from the prolific Jess Battle.

The second half followed in similar vein as Battle added 4, taking her personal tally to 7, Schickhoff scored her second, Chambers her third, substitute Sarah Chadwick grabbed 2 and Rebecca Foster scored 1 also.

Victoria Park holds special memories for FC United fans of a certain vintage going back to our North West Counties days and it was great to visit again; It is probably one of only four away grounds that have hosted our Men’s and Women’s teams (the others being West Didsbury & Chorlton, Moor Lane and the Tameside Stadium) although I stand to be corrected by more decorated FC statisticians than I.
Thanks to all Nelson’s staff and squad for hosting our Women’s Team and supporters and we wish both their Women and Men’s teams all the very best for 2017/18.

On Sunday, in a rearranged fixture, United travel to Crewe Alexandra who will be looking to redress the 1-0 defeat they suffered in the opening game of pre season when they visited Broadhurst Park.
Pre season rounds off with the visit of a WSL1 side from the famous Doncaster Belles to Broadhurst Park on 27th August. Two tough tests against significantly higher placed sides to round off a nine game warm up campaign. Thanks for all the continued and growing support – spread the word as season six looms ever closer.
