FC Women's Dis-Guisingly superb with 4-1 victory in Yorkshire

FC Women’s Dis-Guisingly superb with 4-1 victory in YorkshireWomen’s Premier Reserve League opponents, Guiseley AFC Vixens stepped into the breach as Preston NE Ladies pulled out of the planned fixture with FC during the week. Guiseley’s Development squad suffered a similar fixture set back and it was game on at the Liversedge AFC venue near Brighouse on Sunday afternoon.

United started on the front foot with Beth Tattersall putting in a couple of quality deliveries early on with Guiseley clearing well. Jess McCarrick, Tattersall and Rebecca Foster combined well with Foster playing a superb cross field ball into the path of Kirsty Chambers whose fierce drive was well palmed away by Stacey Haystack in the Guiseley goal.

The deserved breakthrough came just before the quarter hour as Foster played in the threatening Jess Battle who rode one challenge on the edge of the area before blasting past Haytack, giving the keeper no chance.

On the half hour Hanifa Douglas rattled the upright having beaten the keeper, striking first time from another superb Tattersall cross. The ball rolled along the goal line before being cleared and Fran Davies had to be at her defensive best to contain the dangerous No 10 Ebony Njie in the United area.

United’s second resulted from an excellent spell of possession with Abbie Carrington playing the ball into Fran Sullivan who in turn released chambers down the left and her fantastic delivery found the unmarked Battle at the back post with the striker making no mistake from eight yards out.

United started the second half as they ended the first as Foster, Greenhalgh, McCarrick and Sullivan combined to release Douglas who fired into the side netting from a tight angle.

Haytack once again denied Chambers who had the last laugh from the resultant corner, curling her set piece to the far post for Sullivan to chest home from close range on 53 minutes.

United kept up the pressure with substitute and debutant Fliss Winters releasing Battle who in turn was denied by the feet of Haytack. Still on the front foot Chambers struck the bar then, almost out of nothing Poppy Saffrey pulled a goal back for the hosts on 73 minutes and they almost followed this up with their second but Gemma Jackson held well beneath her bar and launched the reds forward.

Two minutes later and United had restored their three goal cushion breaking at pace with Winters laying the ball back to Sullivan who disguised her curling shot beyond Haytack from the edge of the area and besides an increasing flurry of substitutions by the home side there was little left in the game and FC saw out a comfortable victory.

Next Sunday (30th July) the red’s welcome Leeds United Ladies to Broadhurst Park for game No4 of the pre season programme. Leeds, operating under the main LUFC structure, have strengthened recently and will be looking to avenge last pre seasons defeat at the hands of the Reds.
