MARGY'S VIEW ON SATURDAY'S RESULT

MARGY’S VIEW ON SATURDAY’S RESULTFC United of Manchester manager Karl Marginson gave us a few minutes of his time today to discuss the result at the weekend. "I thought we were sloppy first half" said Margy, "mentally we were slow to react, we didn’t work hard enough and seemed half a yard off the pace. I was a lot happier with the second half. They seemed to tire after working so hard for the first 45 minutes. A lot of space opened up and we used it to good effect. Our passing was excellent and we got the goals we deserved."

Karl was happy with the first clean sheet of the season, "we were a bit nervy in the first 10-15 minutes. They could have scored then but after that we weren’t really threatened; the early kick off didn’t help matters. The change of routine may have unsettled our lads." The early chances aside, Karl was happy with the performances. "I though Chaddy was awesome" he said. "He won so many headers, dealt with the danger and made some very necessary early challenges. He’s going to keep getting better with more games, and will very likely start scoring goals soon as well."

Supporters may have been surprised that Adie Orr did not play some part in the match, "Adie picked up a knock on his knee on Wednesday" Karl explained. "He should be ok for the weekend, but we don’t want to rush him back if it will be detrimental in the long term. We’ve got a good squad to choose from, so there is no need to risk a aggravating an injury."

Margy was also impressed by youngster Scott Holt. "I hope people appreciate how difficult it was to score those goals, and to make the chances look so easy" he said. "We’ve seen him do it in training and it is great to see that translate to match day. He’s slowly making his way into our minds, but has to be careful. He is only young and wants to play all the time, but at the moment he is feeling his thigh a little bit. As with Adie, it has to be given time to heal - the last thing any of us want is for either of them to be out for a long spell."

Once again the deadlock was broken by a superb strike from Steve Torpey. Karl chuckled, "he doesn’t score tap ins! He came into his own in the second half, he took them on and got results. I like wingers who will run at defenders and entertain the crowd. Torpey gives us that."

On the subject of the crowd, Margy continues to be bowled over by the level of support. "It is unbelievable. I say that every week, sooner or later I’ll start believing it! We were in the pub after the game and the players absolutely loved it. It was fantastic to see genuine, normal lads mixing with genuine, normal fans. And the songs are great, they sing ’Marginson’s fruit and veg army’ I’ve been laughing all week at that one."

Finally, looking ahead to Saturday, Karl told us what he expects from the players. "We have to work hard. It is the first thing that we must do every match. We’ll hope to keep another clean sheet, because we’re always confident of scoring goals. I’d like a performance like Padiham, lots of chances created - but a few more converted."
