FC's Women bring home the Manchester FA County Cup

FC’s Women bring home the Manchester FA County CupFC United’s Women vanquished the memories of four defeats in the last four seasons at the hands of City of Manchester Ladies when they ran out comprehensive victors by 5 goals to 1 in the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup Final on Friday night.
In front of a fantastic, majority FC crowd of 208, at the home of West Didsbury & Chorlton FC the reds were leading 2-1 at half time having taken the lead through captain Kirsty Chambers, pegged back by Vicky Lomas and restoring the lead just before the break through Jade Parker.

A nervy start to the second half by the reds ensued as City of Manchester pressed for the equaliser. However nerves were settled as Parker scored her second and United’s third. With the game stretched United secured the trophy in the closing stages with two superb strikes; the first a deft, flighted effort from Parker to complete her hatrick (the 49th FCW hatrick in five seasons) before setting up Chambers to blast a pile driver into the top corner from 25 yards with virtually the last kick of the game.
The final whistle sparked fantastic celebrations on and off the pitch from the red contingent, particularly when the elusive trophy was securely in the hands of Kirsty Chambers and the whole squad. Celebrations to savour, treasured memories created and some more silverware for the Broadhurst Park Trophy shelf.
Congratulations to Luke and his staff and all the squad for a fantastic cup run and performance on the night.

Here’s hoping the lads can make it a Manchester cup double when they face Stalybridge Celtic at Boundary Park in the Premier Cup Final this coming Thursday, 4th May.

FC Player of the game: Jade Parker – Out of a fantastic all round team performance Jades first two goals of her hatrick came at pivotal times in the game and built the platform to ensure a comprehensive victory. So many excellent performances throughout the squad with special mentions to Fran Davies at the heart of defence, Jess McCarrick for tenacious battling in midfield and Kirsty Chambers for two vintage strikes.
