Trio unavailable as FC United welcome Boston United to Broadhurst Park

FC United are aiming to get back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon when the Reds host Boston United but manager Karl Marginson expects to be without the services of Chris Chantler, Kieran Glynn, and Dale Tonge.

It’s envisaged that all three players will be out for just one match with minor problems. Chanter has been nursing a tight hamstring for several weeks and fellow fullback Tonge has a stomach bug. Meanwhile, teenager forward Glynn needs to rest a sore knee as a precaution.

As ever, Margy is confident that he has the players to come in to seize the opportunity of a first team place. Jake Williams will be hopeful of slotting into one of the fullback positions and Jerome Wright may drop back from his recent resurgence on the left wing. Matthew Wolfenden could see his first start in the league since the 3-2 home defeat to Bradford Park Avenue on 5th November.

Margy is demanding a big improvement from last time out 10 days ago. FC United were on a fine run of four consecutive victories before being unceremoniously dumped out of the FA Trophy 5-1 by Nuneaton Town. Margy is confident that the defeat was a freak result and the Reds can get back to their recent form on Saturday.

He said: “I hope it was just a freak result. It was one of those nights. I think they had six shots on target and scored five goals. They caught us cold with two quick goals and were 2-0 up inside 10 minutes. We created enough chances to get back into the match but didn’t take them.

“Some of the players possibly got ahead of themselves due to the previous four results and thought they could just turn up and win. But they have to put the hard work in and earn that right. That’s what they have been doing in recent weeks, working hard, making themselves hard to beat and building from there. They have got to get back to doing that again tomorrow.???

It’s fair to say that United have a poor record against Saturday’s visitors with six defeats and just two victories against The Pilgrims since the sides first met eight years ago. One of those victories came this season though when the Reds won 3-2 at York Street in September.

The Lincolnshire club are having a very poor season by their standards. After finishing fifth and making it to the play-offs last season, they were a good bet for another promotion push this season. However, they currently sit 15th in the table, five points behind Karl Marginson’s side.

After a turbulent few months, The Pilgrims parted company with manager Dennis Greene three weeks ago. Greene’s three year tenure came to an end following a crushing 9-2 defeat at league leaders AFC Fylde. Former Mansfield Town manager, 35-year-old Adam Murray is Boston’s fourth manager in as many years and Saturday’s match will be his first in charge.

FC United of Manchester versus Boston United is this Saturday at Broadhurst Park with the traditional and supporter-friendly kick-off time of three o’clock. It’s pay on the gate as usual.
