FC United go into the August bank holiday weekend having had a decent start to the season having only lost once so far, but will be looking to get back to winning ways as they make the trip to Brackley Town on Saturday.

With three draws and a defeat from the first five games Margy’s men know that a couple of poor performances over the bank holiday weekend could see a good start turn into a poor start and before hosting league leaders Darlington on Monday they face a tough test travelling St James Park in Brackley on Saturday.

The Saints will always have a place in FC United history as the game at Broadhurst park last season was the FC United’s first victory at their new ground, with the Reds coming out on top 3-2 thanks to goals from Matthew Wolfenden, Sam Madeley and Tom Greaves.

The return fixture however will not live on in the FC United fixture books as the Saints ran out comfortable 4-0 winners when the sides met again in January of this year.

Originally formed in 1890 it’s been in the past decade that The Saints have enjoyed their best run in their history. After winning the Southern League in 2012 they were promoted to this level and have been an ever present since, even finishing third in the 2012/13 season and reaching the second round of the FA Cup the following season.

Last season’s performance may have been a little disappointing for them though, finishing 19th in the league on the same points as Lowestoft Town but staying up having a better goal difference by 12 goals.

This season had started strongly with draws against Tamworth and AFC Fylde as well as a 2-1 win against Kidderminster Harriers. Like ourselves their own good run ended last Tuesday with their first league defeat as they went down 3-2 at home to Alfreton Town.

Last weekend the Saints went to Edgeley Park and took away a convincing 4-2 win over Stockport County to continue their fine start to the season. They currently sit 8th in the table after five games, but have yet to pick up a home win this season having drew the season opener against Tamworth before losing to Alfreton Town a couple of weeks ago.

New signing James Armson has netted three times for the Saints already this season and he also scored twice in his last appearance against FC United as he got both goals for Solihull Moors on the last day of the season at Broadhurst Park last year.

Saturday’s game is the usual fan-friendly 3.00pm kick off, so get yourself to that football ground.
