Support FC member Leanne Carey in Sunday's Manchester Marathon

FC United member Leanne Carey is running in this Sunday’s Manchester Marathon to raise funds for the club, after having to retire from last year’s race due to a fall in the early stages.

Leanne raised £2,670 in sponsorship for the club’s Development Fund last year and she was determined to make good on that support by running and completing this year’s race which takes place this Sunday.

Leanne commented: "I’m hoping it isn’t lightning striking twice this year taking part in the Manchester marathon. Last year was horrible for myself. I had trained extremely hard and it all ended after three miles after having a nasty fall. I was battered, bruised and swollen but I was determined to get back running again and even more so to complete my first marathon. This is where I am today, training as hard and fully focussed. I had amazing support last year and the generosity was unbelievable and it made me proud to be part of this great club."

When Leanne started fundraising last year she hoped to raise £1,000 to help FC finance the completion of our new ground. Due to the amazing support she received she increased her target and surpassed it.

“I’m really grateful to every single person who has supported me and helped me raise money for the club,??? Leanne said. “Every penny I raise will go towards the further development of Broadhurst Park and make a difference to our supporters and the people of the local area who use the magnificent community facility right on their doorstep.???

The club wishes Leanne the very best of luck as she tackles the 26.2 miles of the Manchester Marathon this Sunday.
