Newton Heath Branch Thursday 7th April

The next meeting of the Newton Heath Supporters Branch will be on Thursday 7 April 2016 at 8pm in The Railway Hotel in Newton Heath.

Earlier this week at the the Railway Hotel, FC stalwarts, Jon Kelly and Steve Mills, hosted committee members of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Society to unveil a plaque celebrating the life of Sir Nigel Gresley, one of the greatest railway engineers this country has produced and who passed away 75 years ago this week, aged 65.

Sir Nigel designed such iconic engines as the Flying Scotsman and Mallard and worked at the L&YR Newton Heath wagon works for a while. There, of course, the coach builders founded Newton Heath L&YR FC (1878), who became Manchester United (1902) and, by association, tie our FC United of Manchester (2005) roots firmly to the days of the Green & Gold – we are all (including Mr Gresley) part of tapestry threads dating back 138 years.

All are welcome to our meeting at the Railway (Purveyors of fine Holt’s ales and hearty sandwiches) tomorrow night to join in proceedings and view the newly unveiled aforementioned plaque and associated Railway memorabilia. Feast and be Merry!
