FC United looking to carry on resurrection over Bank Holiday weekend

Two wins in our last two games has seen a resurrection in FC United’s season and the recent run of good form is something the Reds will be looking to take into the Easter weekend with two games in three days against old rivals Chorley and Curzon Ashton.

Victories over league leaders Solihull Moors and last weekend’s win at Alfreton have seen FC United climb to 14th in the league and put a seven-point gap between ourselves and the relegation zone. The task now is to not only secure safety for the season but hopefully push forward and put as many points as possible on the board, especially with having four of our last seven games at home.

The busy Easter weekend is always testing with two games in three days. First up is a visit from Chorley, who currently sit just four points off the play-off spots in eighth place in the league.

The Reds have met the Magpies 15 times before with FC coming away with eight wins from those meetings, although in the reverse fixture earlier this season it was Chorley who ran out 3-0 winners. That win was a first for the Magpies in five meetings between the two.

Their recent form has stuttered a little, picking up just one point from their last three away games and they went down by a single goal at Bradford Park Avenue midweek.

Familiar faces seem to be the order of the day this weekend, as former players Sam Ashton and Jake Cottrell make their first visits to Broadhurst Park on Saturday and on Monday we face another FC old boy in the form of Mike Norton, who netted an incredible 93 times in an FC United shirt before re-joining Curzon Ashton earlier this season.

Monday’s game will no doubt bring back happy memories as we played the majority of our home fixtures at the Tameside Stadium last season, picking up the league title there against Stourbridge in the last week of the season.

Our record against the Nash is something which we will be looking to defend, with no defeats in the nine competitive meetings between the two teams. We did need two late goals from Sam Madeley and Rory Fallon to rescue an unlikely 3-3 draw at Broadhurst Park in August and keep the undefeated record over our near neighbours.

The Nash are currently 10th in the league, six points ahead of ourselves and eight points off a play-off place, following their promotion with ourselves last season.

Recent form for Monday’s hosts has also been a little unpredictable, with three defeats in their last five games. But they did win their last fixture at the Tameside Stadium beating Worcester City 3-1.

Both games are supporter friendly three o’clock kick offs. So, get yourself to those football grounds.
