FC United has submitted a planning application with Manchester Council to secure temporary planning consent for the siting of two metal containers and a modular building at Broadhurst Park for a temporary period of 18 months to create additional space at the ground.
Since the initial planning and building of Broadhurst Park, the club’s day to day operation has increased in scale quite considerably. We have a successful football academy on site and have aspirations to expand this further next year. We are tight for usable space at Broadhurst Park and need to provide more space for important elements of our operation such as kit, equipment, academy and merchandise.
In a bid to alleviate this problem we have the two metal containers we previously used at Gigg Lane and have the option to benefit from a modular building at minimal cost. The two containers are already in place but will be improved in appearance. The modular building will be located close to the Lightbowne Road entrance on the grassed area adjacent to the hedgerow. The building will be clad in timber to ensure that fits appropriately with the ground design cladding. Full details of our planning application can be found on the council’s Planning Public Access system at

It is our intention to use the two containers for storage whilst the modular building would be used during the week by our football academy and for wider community use. Since moving to Moston, we are receiving increasing numbers of enquiries from local community groups for use of space which we are finding difficult to accommodate. This space would help us satisfy that demand and meet FC United’s aim to provide community benefit. On a match day we plan to use the space for additional catering and merchandise sales.
The planning application is scheduled to be heard by Manchester City Council’s Planning Committee on Thursday 10 December 2015.
