Youth Cup heartbreak against Altrincham

FC United Youth returned to Broadhurst Park for more FA Youth Cup action on Monday evening, but unfortunately the Reds lost out to Altrincham 3-2. Jack Tinning and Jack Ward scored for FC, Dominic Newton and Jude Oyibo replied for the visitors. The decisive action was an own goal as William Shawcross attempted to clear a cross to the far post.

The Reds started well when a foul on Cameron Horner in the 17th minute gave Jack Tinning the chance to fire home from the penalty spot. It was looking good for FC United throughout the first half as the visitors had few chances.

The second half was a different story as Altrincham stepped up the pace of the game. Dominic Newton equalised on the hour and Jude Oyibo giving them the lead three minutes later.

Jack Ward gave the home support in the 342 crowd hope on 75 minutes, scoring with what was quite possibly his first touch at the end of possibly the move of the match. Surely extra time loomed if not another FC grandstand finish. Sadly Altrincham’s winner came just four minutes later and they look forward to a trip to the winners of the Hebburn Town vs Workington tie.
