FC United appoints new community and education manager

FC United of Manchester has appointed Andy Cheshire as its new community and education manager to succeed Robin Pye, who has left the club after seven years leading the club’s community and education activities.

Andy, who has relocated from Scotland to take up the role with FC, has a degree in community education and has been working in community development for 10 years. As a community learning and development worker, his work has previously been centred around gang intervention and breaking down territorial barriers for young people in the east end of Glasgow.

Andy was also heavily involved in schools work north of the border as well as strategic planning of community services. He was manager of two community centres in the north of Glasgow which saw him engage with stakeholders across the local area, helping to identify key areas of work for developing the local community.

Speaking about his appointment, Andy said: “I have been a member of FC United for three years and a season ticket holder for one year. I firmly believe in the ethos of the club and this was the main factor in my decision to uproot and leave Scotland.

"I look forward to developing the great work Robin Pye has achieved over the past seven years and hope to progress the club’s work further as well as enhance the relationships with local partners in our new geographical area in Moston and across Manchester.”

FC United of Manchester general manager Andy Walsh said: “We are delighted that Andy has joined FC United to manage and develop the club’s award winning community engagement work and education programmes. We are extremely proud of the work we do in our local community and we are looking forward to Andy applying his skills and experience to expand this important area of work as we move into our new home at Broadhurst Park.”
