FC United forward Matt Walwyn has been called up by the St. Kitts & Nevis national squad for a training camp in Mexico ahead of forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against El Salvador.
The 24-year-old has scored 13 times in 59 appearances since joining FC United two years ago and has caught the attentions of Jacques Passy Kahn, head coach of the two-island nation’s football team.
St. Kitts & Nevis have already defeated Turks and Caicos Islands in the first qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup competition by a 12-4 aggregate score in March. The ’Sugar Boyz’ now host El Salvador in Basseterre on Thursday 11 June before the return leg in San Salvador five days later.
St Kitts & Nevis remain unbeaten in their last five outings, including four victories and a 3-1 friendly triumph in Barbados last time out. They are ranked 114th in the world by Fifa, 25 places below El Salvador, who are currently ranked 89th, despite winning just one of their last five games whilst losing three.
Everyone at FC United wishes Matt the best of luck for his call up and we look forward to hearing about his trip when he returns back to the UK.
