Wrexham FC head list of pre-season friendlies

Wrexham FC head list of pre-season friendliesFC United is pleased to announce a number of pre-season friendlies as we gear up for our first season in the new Vanarama National League North next season.

Heading the list is a home match at Broadhurst Park on Saturday 1 August against fellow supporter-owned club Wrexham FC. National League Premier Division Wrexham were runners up in the FA Trophy this year and are always well supported on their travels and we expect a good crowd at Broadhurst for this match.

FC United will then visit Sheffield FC, the world’s first ever football club, on Tuesday 14 July 2015 for a friendly. The match will take place at the Coach and Horses Stadium in Dronfield and will kick off at 7.45pm.

Two days later on Thursday 16 July an FC United former players’ side will take on Leigh Genesis at Atherton Collieries’ Alder House ground. This match has been organised to mark the tenth anniversary of FC United’s first ever game in 2005 against Leigh RMI.

The following week, on Tuesday 21 July, FC United will play Manchester League Premier side Prestwich Heys. The game has been planned across many years during which Prestwich have been upgrading their ground to allow them to apply for membership of the NWCFL. We are very pleased to finally be able to include this friendly against a local club.

On Thursday 23 July, FC will visit Barnoldswick of the NWCFL Premier Division. Some of our former youngsters are being nurtured at Barnoldswick and it will be interesting to see how they are getting on. Situated just outside the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our supporters will also no doubt relish the trip to this attractive part of the world.

In early August, on Tuesday 4 August to be precise, FC United will visit old friends Radcliffe Borough from the Northern Premier League Division 1. FC has always had a good relationship with Radcliffe and has played a number of games at their Stainton Park ground.

Friendlies that we have already announced previously are home to Benfica on Friday 29 May, away at Midlands Premier League side Hereford FC on Saturday 11 July, a summer away trip to Whitby Town on Saturday 25 July and a trip to Leek CSOB on Thursday 13 August. Although our new league will have started by then, the Leek friendly will still go ahead as a celebration of the tenth anniversary of our first ever league game.

A reminder that the new season of the Vanarama National League North will start on Saturday 8 August 2015, which is a week earlier than the Northern Premier League.
