Rammy Rattler steam train details

FC United’s away game at Ramsbottom on Saturday 4 April 2015 will see 400+ supporters travel in style to the match aboard a special ’Rammy Rattler’ steam train run by the East Lancashire Railway. FC volunteer and Rattler organiser Mike Platt has put together the information below for those travelling on the Rattler.

Times
Departs Heywood at 13.15, picks up at Bury at 13.35 and arrive at Ramsbottom at 14.00.
Leaves Ramsbottom at 17.15, sets down at Bury 17.40 and arrive at Heywood 18.10 approx.

Post code for Bury Bolton Street station is BL9 0EY and for Heywood station is OL10 1LX. The number 163 bus from Piccadilly and Bury Interchange runs past the top of the station road in Heywood and is every 20 mins. The stop you need is Manchester Street/ East Lancs Railway.

Also we have been told that the Starkie Arms and the White Lion pubs, close to Heywood station, will be opening early on the day and serving bacon butties and similar, but please check with them as the situation could change. There is a Wetherspoons, The Edwin Waugh, in the town centre about 15 minutes away.

Your pin badges, bottle of ale and Easter eggs will be given out at Bury station when the train arrives back at 17.40. People who are going on to Heywood will need to get off the train to pick up their gifts and then get back on for the journey up to Heywood. There will be a table set up on the platform ready and people will need their ticket(s) in order to collect their gifts.

We have arranged for coach A (near the middle of the train) to be for supporters travelling with families and young children, so please no standing in this coach. The East Lancashire Railway will be selling beer on the train and are hoping to set up outlets along the train.

FC United will have volunteers in hi-viz jackets on each coach checking tickets so contact one of them if you need any assistance. Finally let’s all enjoy the day and make as much noise as we can and remember that we are all ambassadors for our wonderful football club.

Bring on United!
