FC United aiming for Boxing Day win at Curzon Ashton

FC United aiming for Boxing Day win at Curzon AshtonFC United are hoping to deliver the perfect Christmas present by bagging three points at high flying Curzon Ashton on Boxing Day.

A good victory is top of manager Karl Margisnon’s wish list as the Reds look to finish the year with two away victories - Curzon then Kings Lynn -and hit 2015 with some promotion challenging form.

After last weekend’s postponement against Barwell, Margy says he and the players are still looking forward to kicking off in our new temporary home at Curzon Ashton’s Tameside Stadium, even if it means being the away team initially.

Two of our next three home games - and Boxing Day’s away game - are scheduled to take place in Ashton and Margy is looking forward to it. He said: "Everyone is really positive about it. Stalybridge Celtic have been fantastic to us but it’s good that we’ve been able to find this solution.

"Curzon have one of the best playing surfaces in non-league football, so the players are all really looking forward to playing there. We have some very happy memories of playing at the ground and I know the transport links are probably slightly better for supporters, so it’s a good move."

Other than long term injuries, the Reds are fully fit and raring to go tomorrow. Chris Lynch must serve a one game suspension for being sent off during our dramatic, last gasp 3-2 win over Barwell in the FA Trophy but Jerome Wright is set to return after his ban.

FC United are looking to get back up the Evo-Stik Premier Division after falling to 12th due to our FA Trophy run and the postponements against Workington and Barwell. However, the Reds have games in hand on all of the teams above us, meaning a couple of victories could see us right back in the mix.

Meanwhile, Curzon are flying high in second place just five points behind leaders Skelmersdale United with four games in hand. As such, they represent probably the toughest test in the league right now.

However, a good result for the in form Reds would send out a strong message that we are capable of mounting a title challenge for the second consecutive season.

Margy says he won’t be driving around his players’ houses on Christmas Day night to check they aren’t indulging in too much festive cheer. He said: "I trust them to look after themselves. They will be keen to get back out there and get another win under their belts."

Curzon Ashton versus FC United of Manchester is this Boxing Day at the Tameside Stadium with a traditional kick-off time of three o’clock. Get yourself to that football ground.
