FC United aiming for fourth place with victory over Frickley

FC United aiming for fourth place with victory over FrickleyFC United go into Tuesday night’s Evo-Stik Premier Division clash with Frickley Athletic knowing that a win could send the Reds up to fourth place but we will be without top-scorer Matthew Wolfenden, who is suspended for three matches.

The match represents a great opportunity for Karl Marginson’s side to apply some pressure to the chasing pack at the top end of the table. The Reds, unbeaten in our last eight matches, currently lie in seventh but just two points behind fourth placed Ramsbottom and fifth placed Grantham Town, neither of whom have a game tonight.

So a win for United would take us above both our rivals and we could also leapfrog Ashton United who are currently just ahead of us on one goal superior goal difference. The Robins host Marine tonight, so they must match our result to stay ahead of us.

FC United have a great record against Frickley with 10 wins, three draws and just two defeats since we first met six years ago. However, the West Yorkshire side humbled us 4-1 at Westfield Lane in September as the Reds spectacularly capitulated after taking a 1-0 lead. The players will be looking to make amends for that tonight.

The Reds came through Saturday’s 2-0 FA Trophy victory over Buxton unscathed and as such should have no fresh injury concerns. Fullback Liam Brownhill is the only short-term injury concern after missing the last three matches.

FC United of Manchester versus Frickley Athletic is this Tuesday at Bower Fold. It’s pay on the gate as usual with prices voted for by our members - £8 for adults, £5 concessions and £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground and cheer the lads up to fourth place.
