FC United aim to close the gap as we welcome Whitby

FC United aim to close the gap as we welcome WhitbyFC United are looking to get back up the Evo-Stik Premier Division table and close the gap on the leading pack as we host Whitby Town at Bower Fold this Saturday.

The tenth placed Reds have fallen nine points behind leaders Buxton but have a game in hand and know that a good run of results would see us right in the mix at the top of the table.

After losing 4-1 at Frickley two weeks ago, Karl Marginson’s side responded well with a 3-1 home victory over Grantham. However, that confidence boosting result was then marred by the 1-0 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Lancaster City last Saturday.

The Reds will have to put that defeat behind them and get back to the kind of form we displayed against Grantham and in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup against Prescot Cables.

The Reds hope to be boosted by the return of centre-back James Knowles, who has missed the last month of action through a groin strain. Meanwhile, midfielder Joe Fox is also aiming to return to first team action after a four week lay off due to a knock he received during our 1-0 win Blyth Spartans.

Tomorrow’s opponents are currently fifth but just one point ahead of FC United, so a win would mean leapfrogging them up the table. Up until last season, the Reds had never lost to Whitby, however The Seasiders pulled off a shock double in the last campaign, beating us 3-1 at Gigg Lane and 3-2 at the Turnbull Ground. The players will be looking to put that right tomorrow.

FC United of Manchester versus Whitby Town is this Saturday at Bower Fold with the traditional, supporter friendly kick-off time of three o’clock. It’s pay on the gate as usual with prices voted for by our members - £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for under-18s.

Get yourself to that football ground and cheer the lads on.
