Margy tips team to bounce back against Grantham on Saturday

FC United will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat at Frickley when they take on Grantham Town at home at Bower Fold, Stalybridge this Saturday. Manager Karl Marginson was as disappointed as anyone with the performance in Yorkshire and is expecting a rapid improvement from his side.

“Playing twice a week provides us with a chance to get back on the bike quickly and we need to because we fell off it pretty dramatically in the week,??? said Margy. “We’ve looked at what happened with the players and talked about it in training on Thursday. We had the club nutritionist in with us at training to talk to the players about recovery and the nutritional side. I thought we looked a bit leggy on Tuesday night after playing in the cup on Sunday and we need to improve that. Recovery and good nutrition is key and important at our level of the game and I’m sure the lads will take the messages on board that they have been given. We had a very bad night at the office against Frickley and we need to put that right starting this Saturday.???

Margy said that there were a few injury doubts ahead of the game over James Knowles, Joe Fox and Jerome Wright but on the positive side Andy Pearson did a full training session and could be back in contention depending on how he recovers. After a disappointing result like losing 4-1 away to Frickley Margy said it was important to discuss what went wrong with all the players honestly and openly. “We’ve had chats with the players and the approach is different depending on who you’re dealing with. Some players might need a jolt while others may need reassuring. What we have to do is take all the emotion after a bad defeat out of the situation and look at the reasons why we were beaten so soundly,??? Margy said.

“We weren’t brave enough against Frickley and were a bit naive at times and we paid the price for that. I’ve already mentioned the recovery and nutrition side and we are addressing that. Ability-wise we know we have it in us to beat anyone but we really let ourselves down in midweek and that hurts. We’re disappointed about that and feel for the fans especially but make no mistake about it we’ll be raring to turn that around with a good performance on Saturday. The players know that they need to take their opportunity to put it right. As you would expect, we’ve had Grantham watched and they are a big, strong, aggressive and direct side. We’ll have to make sure that we out battle them and play with a bit of nowse when needed. Saturday is our chance to bounce back and show everyone what we are capable of.???

FC United v Grantham Town takes place at Bower Fold, Stalybridge on Saturday 20 September 2014 with a 3pm kick off. Admission is just £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and only £2 for under-18s.
