FC United Youth triumph in first league game of the season

Altrincham FC Youth vs. FC United Youth

Football Conference Youth Alliance
Wednesday 3rd September

Venue: Hale Country Club & Spa, Clay Lane

FC United’s Youth Team kicked off their Football Conference Youth Alliance season with an impressive 3-1 away win at Altrincham FC.

United enjoyed large periods of possession, with the three-man midfield of Robson Buckley, Omar Benali and Zac Cooper enjoying the ball and looking to create chances at every opportunity.

After four minutes, FC’s Rhys Coogan was brought down just inside the opposition half. Zac Cooper delivered an in-swinging ball that was perfectly weighted for Jacob Holt to head home from 12 yards to give the young reds the lead.

FC United continued to play attractive, attacking football and create chances, while also looking calm and composed at the back.

However, against the run of play on 20 minutes The Robins equalised through a well-worked move, culminating in a headed finish.

In the 29th minute FC went back ahead. Chorlton brought the ball out from defence, playing a nice one-two with Cooper, before his shot hit the ‘keeper and landed at the feet of Coogan, who was able to finish with a first-time chip.

FC United went in at half-time 2-1 to the good and they had looked solid throughout, but were still disappointed at wasting a number of missed opportunities to extend the lead.

The Reds continued to make chances in the second period, with Coogan hitting the post and the Alty keeper forced into a number of saves and clearances.

The introduction of Jack Tinning added to FC’s attacking threat and he created further opportunities, with the linesman’s flag coming to the home side’s rescue on a couple of occasions.

After several close misses, Buckley finally got himself on the scoresheet after 82 minutes, playing a wall pass with Tinning and rounding the Altrincham ‘keeper to finish off a great league debut by the FC United Youth Team.

FC United Academy Manager, Paul Bright said “I thought the lads played well and looked to implement the things that me and Chuks have been working on in training with them.
“There are still lots of things we need to improve on as a team, however all of the players have a great attitude and are willing to learn.
“We have a game against Gateshead on Monday, who won this league last season, and the FA Youth Cup tie at Macclesfield Town on Thursday. Both games are going to be challenging for the lads but hopefully we will be up for it.???
