Can FC United pip Chorley to the title and promotion?

This time tomorrow FC United will be champions of the Evo-Stik Premier Division and promoted to the Conference North or in the play-offs for the fourth consecutive year.

Read it again. Either way, it’s a fantastic achievement for our club. But we all know the outcome we would prefer.

The Reds travel to Leicestershire to take on Evo-Stik new boys Barwell knowing that we have to win to have any chance of taking the title. If we gain three points tomorrow and Chorley fail to beat Buxton away, we will be crowned champions.

FC United have a fantastic chance but it is not in our hands. If Chorley win, they are guaranteed top spot.

Even if we don’t manage to catch Chorley, it has been another exciting season for us, amassing an outstanding 93 points and 105 goals. On top of that, it’s important that we gain at least a draw to cement second place and home advantage in the play-offs.

It’s a point not lost on manager Karl Marginson: "All we can do tomorrow is win our game and hope Buxton do us a favour.

"If that doesn’t happen, then it’s important we finish second to get home advantage. It would be a massive boost for everyone to play the play-offs at home. Having home advantage would mean a big crowd, who would give the players that extra boost. The supporters are the 12th man and they help the players go that extra mile."

However, sticking to his principle of taking it one game at a time, Margy added: "We don’t know what tomorrow might bring yet. If we take care of our result, then you just never know."

Can the lads end the season in style? To find out, get yourself to that football ground.
