FC United aiming to top the table with tenth win at Witton

FC United aiming to top the table with tenth win at WittonFC United of Manchester could go to the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division table for the first time this season by recording our tenth consecutive league victory tonight at Witton Albion but it will mean winning at Wincham Park for the first time in eight competitive attempts.

Due to being the only promotion chasing team in action tonight, three points would put the Reds level with Chorley at the top of the table, having played one game more. A win by three goals or more would put us ahead on goals scored. A draw or a win by two goals or fewer would be enough to put us into second place, ahead of Worksop Town on the same amount of games played. A defeat would leave us in third place.

The Reds are riding high with confidence after nine straight league victories has seen us move from play-off hopefuls to genuine title contenders. However, there are still nine games to go and, due to a series of postponements caused by the wettest January on record, the Reds have to play twice a week nearly every week from now until the end of April.

It will be a testing time, there is no doubt about it but the positive is that our rivals are in a similar situation and they are not enjoying the kind of good form that United have been doing recently. The Reds expect to have a full squad to choose from, apart from, midfielder Chris Worsley, goalkeeper James Spencer and winger Matt Walwyn who are all unavailable through injury.

Karl Marginson’s side have played seven competitive games at Wincham Park over the last eight years, two against Congleton and five against Witton, and we have not won any of those matches, instead recording four draws and three defeats. So, if we do win tonight, it will finally break our Wincham Park hoodoo.

Witton Albion versus FC United of Manchester is tonight at Wincham Park where it’s pay on the gate with a 7.45pm kick-off. Get yourself to that football ground and cheer the lads on as they aim to go to the top of the table.
