FC United aiming for perfect ten against Barwell

FC United are aiming to extend our unbeaten run to ten games as we welcome Evo-Stik Premier Division new boys Barwell to Gigg Lane for the inaugural encounter between the two clubs.

A fantastic run of results in recent weeks, capped by last Saturday’s 2-0 win at then third placed Fylde, has seen the Reds move up into the play-off zone. Now Karl Marginson’s side will be looking to end 2013 in style by taking as many points as possible in our last three games of the year.

First up, it’s Barwell. The Leicestershire side are currently in 14th position but finished a promising seventh in the Southern Football League Premier Division last season before being transferred to the Northern Premier Division over the summer due to the geographical composition of teams making up level seven of the national football pyramid.

United have been rocked by the news that goalkeeper Jamie Spencer may be out for several weeks with a knee injury in the same week that fellow shot-stopper Jon Wornsop has departed for Conference Premier Division side Alfreton Town, who are chasing promotion to the Football League. Margy is confident of getting a good goalkeeper on loan for the festive period and he feels United have what it takes to deliver a very happy Christmas.

He said: "Saturday’s win at Fylde was not only a fantastic result, it showed how we can adapt to various conditions. It was horrendous out there with the wind and rain and I thought we coped magnificently.

"We put the ball in the right places and kept them under pressure. Our passing on the floor in the second half particularly was excellent and on another day we could have won by a far greater margin.

"Barwell will provide a good test for us and I’m sure they will come here to enjoy themselves. But if the lads play like we have been doing in recent weeks then that should be enough."

Get yourself to that football ground.
