FC United take on Ashton United in Doodson Sport Cup

FC United take on Ashton United in the Doodson Sport League Cup on Wednesday night, aiming to make it through to the last 16 for only the second time.

Manager Karl Marginson will almost definitely shuffle his team from the XI that beat Blyth Spartans 3-0 on Saturday. Lee Neville is back from his three match suspension and will be hoping to feature.

The two clubs have met 13 times since our first encounter in 2008, including twice before in this competition, and United have just shaded it, although it’s been very close.

The Reds have won seven, drawn one and lost five of the fixtures. The good news for Wednesday night is that of those five defeats, the Robins have only ever beaten United away from Hurst Cross once, back in April 2010.

Margy will be looking to keep it that way as he has set his sights on going as far as possible in the competition this year. He said: "We always try to win every game we play. But we’ve got a big strong squad this season, especially with players returning from injury and suspension, so we’re aiming to go all the way to the final."
