Help us shape our "Woman's Place is at the Match" event

Supporters are invited to attend and bring other interested parties to a planning and ideas meeting at 7pm on Monday October 21st at YClub, Liverpool Rd, Manchester M3 4JR. Parking available.

The club has scheduled our “A Woman’s Place is at the Match??? event to coincide with the Kings Lynn home fixture on March 15th. Women’s sports teams, schools and supporting community groups will be offered free entry to the fixture and the off field activities.

This unique annual event was created by our fans in 2012 to acknowledge International Women’s Day by celebrating the role of women in developing FC United of Manchester as a fan-owned and fan-run club. It was followed by the establishment of the club’s first ever women’s team.

The event serves to underline the important role of women in our club and football in general, not simply to our male and female supporters, but also to the public at large. In 2013, it was referenced in glowing terms on the floor of the House of Commons (Hansard, 26 March).

In 2014, we are looking to widen out the event to involve other sports across the city, developing the celebration as an event for all those who support women’s involvement in sports activities and in sports management.

This event will take place at Gigg Lane. At present, we plan stalls, demonstrations, an exhibition and a pre-match pitchside parade of women’s sports teams and individual sportswomen. We are producing a “Woman’s Place is in Sports??? video, which will be premiéred on the evening of March 14th and accompanied by a Q&A with members of our Women’s Team.
