FC United welcome hotly tipped AFC Fylde to Gigg Lane

FC United welcome hotly tipped AFC Fylde to Gigg LaneFC United welcome bookies’ favourites for the Evo-Stik Premier Division title, AFC Fylde to Gigg Lane tonight for our first home match of the season for what promises to be a close encounter.

Fylde were a whisker away from making it into the play-off final last season, their first in the division following promotion as Division One North champions in 2012, and after strengthening over the summer they are expected by many to be at the top end of the table again come the end of April.

Whilst the Reds lost our opening fixture 2-0 away at Worksop Town on Saturday, The Coasters secured a late 2-1 win over Stafford Rangers. Although United will be anxious to get our first points of the season on the board, the players will take encouragement from the fact that the Reds won the corresponding fixture 2-1 last season. In February this year, Matthew Wolfenden struck twice in the second half to overcome an early own goal by Dean Stott.

Manager Karl Marginson may be tempted to make changes to the team for Tuesday night’s fixture but for now, he’s keeping that firmly under wraps. One thing is for certain, following a hatful of missed chances in the first half on Saturday, Margy will have reminded the players that they need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

FC United of Manchester versus AFC Fylde kicks-off tonight at 7.45pm at Gigg Lane. It’s pay on the gate as usual with £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and just £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
