Youth return to winning ways

Curzon Ashton were the visitors to The Lancaster Club on Sunday and provided a stiff test for the youth team before departing pointless in a 5-3 win for the reds. The visitors started brightly and tested Ryan Barker in the home goal in the first minute. The reds however opened the scoring when, having been fouled on the edge of the box, delivered a firm cross which, via a deflection was prodded home by Lewis Adams in the third minute.

Five minutes later it was 2-0 to the reds as Maynard collected a cross field ball in much the same place as the free kick. This time he cut in front of Daniel Bright the Curzon full back and fired past McLaughlin in the visitors’ goal at the near post. Five minutes later Curzon were level with first, Jordan Rutter firing in from the edge of the box and Nick Haughton free kick awarded after play was pulled back from the far end of the pitch because Barker was adjudged to have held the ball outside the area whilst making a clearance. FC completed the first half scoring ten minutes later with another free kick, this time headed home by Liam Ellis.

The second half was dominated by FC United, two goals from Charlie Doyle and Jonathan Poizer in the 54th and 73rd minutes were perhaps the stiffest test of McLaughlin and the Curzon defence. The scoring was completed late on by Curzon as Haughton finished off a good move, shooting from the corner of the penalty area.

The reds now face a hectic end to the season with five games in two weeks, home and away to Prescot on 14th and 21st, and home to Abbey Hey on the 9th, Warrington on the 17th and Altrincham on the 17th.
