Matlock game

Matlock gameThe Evo-Stik League website this morning has announced that next week’s game against Matlock has been moved from Tuesday to Wednesday citing the clash with the televised MUFC/Real Madrid match.

It is true that Matlock did contact us asking for the game to be moved due to the clash with the Champions League match, but we made it clear at all times to the League and Matlock that we would not agree to move a game just so that people can watch another game on TV. We have already turned down a similar request earlier in the season from a different club and we will do so every time unless there is another compelling reason for a change of date.

We are aware that moving the game has upset a number of our fans and FC United would like to apologise unreservedly for the inconvenience and any upset that has been caused in this instance. Regardless of Matlock’s motivation for moving the game, we would like to reassure our own supporters that we only agreed to move the match back 24 hours to give our players an extra day’s rest from our Sunday fixture, after consultation with manager Karl Marginson.

The date for the North Ferriby game was arranged for the Sunday after the original fixture clashed with home games for both Bury FC and Stalybridge Celtic on the Saturday. With no alternative venue available and to avoid having no weekend game at a crucial part of the season, the Ferriby match was arranged for the Sunday.

With the number of postponements this season, rearranging fixtures has been a real headache. We always try to balance the needs of supporters and that of the team and sometimes that can create problems. Last night’s board meeting reviewed our own internal procedures for dealing with future match arrangements which will be shared with the club’s co-owners via the board minutes.
