Happy Youth Wanderers

On Tuesday lunchtime the youth side traveled to the Bolton Wanderers Academy to take on an academy 11. Ostensibly a closed door friendly designed to give the lads experience against a higher level team, the lads did exceptionally well to come out with a 4-1 win.

In providing a cue followed by the first team, the lads survived the test provided by the opposition and were 4-0 up at half time. The first was scored by Yousif Yousif as he was first to react to a Mike Taylor shot hitting the post. Frank van Gils, finished a neat move for the second and a Daniel Maynard rocket shot made it three. The fourth started with a long clearance from Josh Broadbent which Yousif gambled on being missed by the Bolton defender, making no mistake with his shot.

The second half was a much tighter affair as the Bolton side watched by Sammy Lee improved noticeably, particularly in defence, though it has to be said they tested the FC defence throughout but were let down by inaccurate finishing and some excellent work by the lads.

They did score from the penalty spot with the last kick of the game, but that should not be allowed to distract from the FC performance.

The starting line-up was Broadbent, Musialowski, Lacy, Callacher, Adams, Doyle, Taylor, van Gils, Maynard, Yousif and Poizer. The second half saw too many substitutions to mention as the rest of the squad got time on the pitch.
