Euro away to Babelsberg and Dynamo Dresden (Germany) - Updated-link

After a couple of seasons with no European trip, we are, in proper football-speak, over the moon to announce that FC United have been invited to play two friendly games in Germany at the end of this season:

Friday 31 May 2013 v SV Babelsberg 03 (Potsdam)
Sunday 2 June 2013 v SG Dynamo Dresden – to celebrate their 60th anniversary

Full details about these games will be announced nearer the time and we have also been told that information will be provided to help with travel from Potsdam to Dresden for those who want to see both games.

Background information
Supporters might like to know how these games came about. We were initially approached a year ago by representatives from Dynamo Dresden who asked if we would play a friendly against them as part of their 60th anniversary celebrations. They were very keen to play FC United, because they’d heard good reports about our philosophy and in particular our fan inclusion. Later we had some contact with SV Babelsberg 03, because they are a club with a similar ethos to FC United. Their proximity to Dresden made it possible to consider a friendly with Babelsberg as well and the two German clubs reached an agreement about making our trip a double-header.


FC United are looking forward to both games. Manager Karl Marginson said “The players and management team are very excited about this trip to Germany to play against 2nd and 3rd division clubs. I remember how tough it was playing short 5-a-side games against such opposition in Riesa in January 2008. I’m sure our players will do very well, but I won’t be picking myself in the team if either club put out their strongest side!???.

Our Germany-based co-owners hope to work with fans from both clubs to provide more background information to the respective clubs, fanscenes and cities in due course.
