FC United out of the Manchester Premier Cup at Mossley

FC United were knocked out of the Manchester Premier Cup by Mossley for the second year running, losing 3-2 on a crisp Tameside night on Tuesday.

The Reds side was much changed from the recent FA Carlsberg Trophy games with Paul Armstrong, Karl Munroe and Greg Daniels all making their first starts of the season for FC United.

The home side were almost in the lead inside 20 seconds when Chris Rowney broke on the right hand-side, his cross was turned into the side netting by Sam Madeley who probably should have done better with the goal at his mercy.

Greg Daniels was looking dangerous at the other end of the pitch, with a free-kick and shot both going over the goal. Mossley took the lead on 16 minutes, when a Charlie Anderson pass was intercepted on the right hand side. The ball was crossed in for Adam Mather to put the ball into the net.

The opening goal started a destructive seven minute spell for FC United as Mather doubled the lead with a header past Jon Worsnop on 21 minutes and just two minutes later the lead was extended when a through ball played in Sam Hind and he finished well past Worsnop.

The half did end on a slightly more positive note for the Reds as good move between Chris Amadi and Greg Daniels forced a great save from Martin Pearson in the home goal.

The second half started slowly with neither team making any inroads towards goal. Just before the hour mark, Mather fired just wide and substitute Kayde Coppin heading wide from close range.

With nine minutes left on the clock, Daniels played in substitute Phil McGrath who saw his shot tipped over. Two minutes later, FC pulled a goal back when a cross from the right was tapped in by Amadi.

Amadi was again involved on 86 minutes when his run ended with the ball bobbling up in the air and being handled by a Mossley defender. From the spot, Amadi sent Pearson the wrong way to set up a tense finale but the home side held on for the victory.

Website man of the match: Cedric Krou - Just pips Connor Naughton to the award thanks to a nonstop energetic performance in the middle of the pitch. He also linked up well with the front players.
