Moston sports club receives windfall donation from FC

Moston and District Sports and Youth Club are £2,000 better off thanks to a donation from FC United, after the club’s progress in the FA Cup last season made FC eligible for a portion of the FA Community Shield Fund.

The fund provides a windfall pay-out each year as community-based initiatives and charities around the country share in the proceeds. Revenue from the gate receipts and match programme sales at the Community Shield is distributed to the 124 clubs who competed in The FA Cup from the first round onwards. As FC United played in the first and second round of the Cup last season, the club was eligible for a share of those proceeds.

Eligible clubs can pass on much-needed donations to charities and projects of their choice and FC nominated Moston and District Sports and Youth Club to receive their £2,000 share. Representatives from Moston attend FC’s home game against Worksop on Saturday 24 March 2012 where they were presented with a cheque for £2,000 by FC United board member Adam Brown.

Paul Mitchell from Moston and District Sports and Youth Club said: "This very welcome windfall will be used to fund football facilities for local young people in Moston we are grateful to the FA for the cheque and to FC United of Manchester for nominating us." FC United general manager Andy Walsh said: "Reaching the first round of the FA Cup last season was a milestone event for FC United and being able to share some of the benefits of that success with a local sports organisation is an added bonus."
