Board meeting digest report

The FC United board met for its latest meeting on 20 February 2012 from 6pm until 11pm and unsurprisingly the discussions were dominated by the latest developments on the community stadium project in Moston.

Representatives from Manchester City Council, including the chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein, attended the board, giving members the opportunity to discuss first hand some of the particulars related to the project. Those discussions were very constructive and it was extremely helpful to be able to meet council officers in a face-to-face setting.

The board also discussed the need for a final push on the community share scheme in order that we hit our fundraising target of £1.6m. It was also made clear at the meeting that we also need to hit the Development Fund target and plans were discussed to help achieve that.

Board members were very encouraged by the progress made on the community share scheme. The meeting heard that many FC members had topped up their initial investment and that there was still new investment coming in. Once again, board members expressed their appreciation of the fantastic effort being made by FC members in raising such a vast some in the current economic climate.

Board members also received reports on the following areas of work – events, community, promotions, membership, football, press and communications, secretary’s report, commercial, merchandise and finance.

The amount of work being done by volunteers was clear from all the positive reports the board received. Membership remains healthy with 3,000+ members and the efforts of volunteers were fully recognised. The board placed on record its appreciation of all those at the club who make things happen week-in, week-out – it’s this brilliant work that has created the platform for the success of the club as a thriving community enterprise, on and off the pitch.

Finally, the board reviewed a number of new designs for an away kit. As the existing kit was coming to the end of its second season, now was the time to review new designs in case members decided that they would like to change the kit for the 2012/13 season. A shortlist of designs was drawn up by the board for members to vote on, including the option of retaining the current kit.
