FC tops Fair Play table for February

FC United has won the Evostik Northern Premier League Fair Play award for February. FC incurred just two cautions in four games during the month, which has seen the team move up in to fourth place in the overall season-to-date tables.

The award will please manager Karl Marginson, who back in January warned his players about the dangers of ill-discipline as the team embarked on a crucial series of fixtures. Margy also enlisted the help of a referee to come and have a word with players to explain how things work and that seems to have done the trick.

Commenting on winning the Fair Play award, Karl said: "I’m delighted that the lads have taken on board what was said in January, so fair play to them! It shows that it’s worth addressing issues like this as a group. As we all know, ill-discipline cost us dear last season with players ruled out of the play-off final after needless sending offs and we don’t want a repetition this year".

The club’s prize for topping the fair play table in February is a 1.5 litre bottle of Famous Grouse whisky, which will be presented by Phil Bradley, League Vice-President and Respect Manager, before the home game v Stocksbridge Park Steels on Saturday 10 March.
