FC United family fun day in Moston

Around 300 local residents packed into Moston Miners Community Arts and Music Centre on Sunday 4 December for an "FC United... It’s Your Co-op Family Fun Day". The day was organised by the club to enable local people to find out more about Co-ops and how the proposed new ground in the area will benefit the local community.

Despite constant rain all day, people still came from the local Moston Miners estate to support the day and the rooms were packed. Kath Harvey, secretary of the Moston-based M40 4 FC group, said: "We were really delighted with the turnout. Plans for the new ground were laid out on a table for everyone to see and there was a great deal of interest and excitement about what’s being planned."

Locals took the opportunity to catch up on the latest news on the new community stadium for Moston and what it means for local people. FC United general manager Andy Walsh was present to answer questions about the club’s plans and local people also took the chance to quiz the two local councillors, Paul Murphy and Rita Tavernor who were also present.

FC United’s team manager Karl Marginson and his assistant Roy Soule were also present, as were coaches from the club, who worked with children throughout the day. "The children had a great time and our face-painters were busy throughout the three hours," said Kath Harvey. "Father Christmas also turned up and we were entertained by the Pathfinder Choir from Harpurhey, who went down a storm."

"We were really pleased with the way the day went. To get around 300 people on such a wet and windy day shows how much interest there is in the FC United project and the benefits it can bring to our community," Harvey said.

A special thanks go the The Co-operative Membership of Manchester for generously supporting the event.
