Many supporters have met Nicola who is an activist for our partner charity ACE Centre North. Nicola, wheelchair-bound and enabled to communicate by use of a communication aid, nevertheless participated in the FC Minithon, completing the course, to raise funds to assist others with severe communication difficulties, despite obstacles of mud, steps and bridges.

FC General Manager, Andy Walsh, applauded Nicola and put out this special appeal: "Nicola completed the 5k FC Minithon to help ACE raise funds to secure an Eye Gaze Unit to enable those with disabilities such as severe paralysis to operate a computer with their eyes, and to help FC.

If each and every one of our supporters can show our appreciation for her commitment by asking all our friends, family, work associates and employers to put just £2.00 on her Justgiving total at
http://www.justgiving.com/minithon2011 then we can secure that Eye Gaze Unit and help give others a voice. Please email this appeal to all your contacts and ask them to send it on to theirs".

LA Confidential

After last year’s Mancunian-style drizzle, it was more of a typical Caifornian autumn day in Santa Monica - sunny, 72 degrees - that greeted this year’s FCUM LA Minithon contestants.

There was a healthy turnout this year...15 contestants in total ran, walked and cycled along the route from Santa Monica pier to Venice Beach and back. The halfway mark was the Venice Ale House, a motivational tool to remind the runners of what lay waiting for them when they had finished their run.
It seemed to work, as times were slightly up on last year overall. Greg Markman was the fastest runner overall, coming in at just under 19 minutes for the 5k route, and Sean Tarpey was the fastest kid.

All in all, the FCUM Californian Minithon raised just over £600 - from donors in Manchester, London, Los Angeles and beyond. Well done to all involved - we’re all already looking forward to next year’s event.
