Injury hit United hoping for victory over Nantwich

FC United go into Wednesday night’s clash with Nantwich Town hoping to get back to winning ways after two straight defeats but they may have four regular players out through injury.

Captain Kyle Jacobs, Steve Torpey and Matthew Wolfenden are all expected to be out for at least a couple of weeks with hamstring strains whilst Carlos Roca is still battling to overcome a dead leg sustained at Kendal.

Manager Karl Marginson is now back at the helm following recent hospital treatment for an illness and he’s looking forward to trying to get some more points on the board.

Margy said: "It’s been a tough time having had a mystery illness but I’m now heading towards 100 per cent fitness. The support I’ve had has been absolutely fantastic. There were times in hospital when I was pretty low and the messages of support really did give me a big lift. I can’t thank you all enough.

"It was, undoubtedly, the worst thing I’ve experienced and it’s frustrating because no one knows the cause. I’m back in hospital for tests next week but, thankfully, they’re to confirm I’m better rather than investigating what the hell was wrong with me.

"The staff at the club did a superb job in my absence - Roy and Daz can’t be praised highly enough. They proved that this club is about teamwork, not individuals, and the greater good of everyone.

"Thank goodness, it’s time to get back to the football and we come into Wednesday’s game without a win in three matches. We’ve been making chances galore, but for whatever reason they haven’t been converted, and that’s something we need to address.

"We welcome old friends Nantwich Town to Gigg Lane and it should be another cracking game. They beat Chester recently and are definitely a decent side. So, if we want to beat teams like this and compete at the top of the league, we need to start taking our chances.

"We will almost certainly have players missing through injury but the positive side is it will allow players who’ve not yet had opportunities, to step up and stake their claim for a place in the team."

FC United versus Nantwich Town is this Wednesday at Gigg Lane with kick-off at 7.45pm. It’s pay on the gate as usual. Get yourself to that football ground.
