Youth set for league title double header

Whilst most of you are are getting giddy at the thought of the first team qualifying for the end of season play-offs, spare a thought for the youth team who are endeavouring to do even better by actually winning the North West Youth Alliance Premier Division (NWYA).

The lads have an April schedule that is nearly as hectic as their senior counterparts, with five games still to be played including two against title rivals NWYA new boys Mossley.

The weekend was one of United comebacks and the youth team were no different; overturning a 1-0 half-time deficit to win 5-1 at Marine on Sunday. The win maintained the youth team’s unbeaten league record, extending it to 14 wins and one draw so far this season which sees them 12 points clear of Mossley.

However, Mossley also have their eyes firmly set on the title as they have three games in hand over the United. The Seel Park outfit have a record of 10 wins, one draw and one defeat in 12 games. Youth watchers will know that along with FC they are by some distance the two best sides in this division this year and will be no pushovers.

Mossley still have eight league games to play and have had much more success in cup competitions, knocking the Reds out of the Manchester FA County Youth Cup and reached the final. They have also reached the semi-final stage in the NWYA’s Open and Premier Division Cups.

FC United play Sunday, Wednesday and Sunday coming up including Mossley at St Brides on Wednesday 13th April. So, even if you can’t tear yourself away from Stalybridge and watching the first team please keep them in your thoughts and keep pestering anyone and everyone for score updates.
