North Ferriby versus FC United - when two form teams collide

With a run of nine games unbeaten, FC United are officially the in-form team in the Evo-Stik Premier Division and on Tuesday night they travel to North Ferriby United to take on their promotional rivals who are the second most on-form team.

Until a surprise home defeat to Northwich Victoria on Saturday, Ferriby had enjoyed five straight victories which sees them in fourth place and staking a serious claim for a play-off spot.

United have a good record against North Ferriby, winning three and drawing one of the five encounters between the clubs. A good omen is that two of the victories have come at Grange Lane, where tonight’s match takes place.

However, a bad omen is that both those matches were on a Saturday afternoon and the only time FC United have lost to The Villagers was last season when, just like this time around, they had to make the long trip to Humberside on a Tuesday night.

FC United manager Karl Marginson will not be looking for excuses though as he knows getting points on the road in midweek is a quality that a side with promotion aspirations needs to have. Margy said: “If we play like we can there is nowhere we should fear going in this league.

“Regardless of whether it’s on a Saturday afternoon, a Tuesday night or any other time of the week, the players have to turn up, put in a performance to the best of their abilities and that’s all we can ask for. We’ve shown in recent weeks we can win tricky matches away from home and we’ll be looking to do the same on Tuesday.???

A win tonight would draw FC United level with North Ferriby on 56 points and could potentially put the Reds up to fifth place, depending on how Buxton get on in their local derby at Matlock Town.
