More than 120 young footballers from across north Trafford will be taking to the field on Thursday 13 July in a schools festival, which has been organised in partnership with FC United.

The event will feature more than four hours of small-sided games involving teams from seven local primary schools in competitions for Year 4/5 and Year 6 pupils.

The festival is being organised in association with local grassroots club North Trafford Athletic, with support from Trafford Borough Council, Victoria Park Junior School and St Alphonsus School, who are hosting the event.

The aim of the 7-a-side event is to encourage girls football, help schools develop next season’s team and celebrate the contribution of the children who have played for the school this year. Each squad of 10 players must include at least three girls, with at least two girls on the pitch at any one time.

"It’s going to be a very exciting day for the youngsters involved,"?? said John Thomason, FC United’s recently appointed Club and Community Development Officer.

"There will be a trophy for each of the winning teams, thanks to our friends at Atticus Trophies, and FC United are sponsoring medals for every player involved. There are some really talented young players in the area, especially amongst the girls, and it’s great that they’re all so keen to take part."??

On Thursday this week John visited St Matthew’s School in Stretford, where he carried out some coaching followed by a mini-tournament for more than 40 Year 4, 5, and 6 pupils, many of whom will be taking part in the festival next week.
