FC United chase the eighth tonight at Bower Fold

FC United take on promotion rivals Chasetown at Stalybridge Celtic’s Bower Fold on Wednesday night knowing that a victory would put the Reds up to eighth and in serious contention for the play-off places.

After an excellent 4-0 win at home to Whitby on Saturday, the possibility of challenging for promotion looks back on but tonight provides a real test as Chasetown are an in-form team also vying to get into the play-off zone with four wins out of the last five.

Manager Karl Marginson has admiration for what the Staffordshire side have achieved so fat this season but he knows his team should be looking to take all three points tonight. He said: “Chasetown are having a very good first season in this division. They have a decent mix of quality and experience with a lad up front who’s played in the league and can score goals.

“Currently they’re on a fantastic run in the FA Trophy having beaten four teams from higher divisions, which gives an indication of their ability. As we perhaps saw that can sometimes take your eye off the league games, although no doubt there’ll be players looking to stake their claim to a place for the big games to come. Whether it affects them or not, if our lads go out and work harder than their opponents then I’m confident we’ll come off best.???

FC United will wait on the fitness of Scott McManus who took a knock on Saturday but if the centre-back doesn’t make it, Margy has ready made replacements in the form of Karl Munroe and Matt Tierney, who’s three match ban commences on Saturday.

Margy added: “Matty Tierney impressed on Saturday, especially when he dropped back into defence after Scott came off. We know what he can do and the ability he’s got and being able to drop back there it’s definitely an asset to us. Unfortunately he’s got a three-game ban coming up when McManus will be out suspended but we’ll cope.???

Meanwhile, Ludovic Quistin has decided to take an opportunity with Trondheim in Norway where he’s going to do pre-season. Margy said: “Ludo’s been fantastic for us, especially when he came back from injury and put in great performance against Brighton in the replay. We wish him all the best.???

FC United versus Chasetown is this Wednesday at Bower Fold with kick-off 7.45pm. It’s pay on the gate as usual. Come on cheer the boys as they chase the eighth spot and aim to get within touching distance of the play-off places.
