Promoted!

Promoted!

Crack open some champagne because the celebrations are underway - FC United have officially been promoted to North West Counties Division One after beating Chadderton 4-0 at Gigg Lane.

The reds have marked a magnificent debut season by sealing promotion with victory over the Oldham club in front of 2,788 people and now they will be hoping to put the icing on the cake by being crowned champions in the next week.

Steve Torpey got the party started with a trademark free kick in the 21st minute and Rob Nugent headed a second five minutes before half time after good work down the right wing by David Swarbrick.

United dominated the game with some exquisite touches and electric football before substitute William Ahern rifled home a wonder strike from the edge of the box in the 81st minute.

All that was left was for Rory Patterson to convert a penalty with three minutes to go after Tony Cullen had been scythed down in the box.

Full match plus reaction from Margy and the boys to follow.
