Big Coat Day

Across Greater Manchester, various care teams, jobcentre staff, homeless prevention teams, co-operatives and coop members are talking about FC and our Big Coat Day on January 1st. The fact that FC has called on its supporters and members of the public to come to our Big Coat Day fixture at Gigg Lane and bring their surplus winter clothing for collection by the Salvation Army and the Boaz Trust has sparked their imagination.

"I was playing five-a-side with some lads from work and a Leeds fan said he had a coat for me. I said what the hell you talking about? He said that a Scouser in Norwich had read about our Big Coat Day on our intranet and told him about it," commented a supporter working for the Coop.

Another supporter mentioned it to his District Manager who is now organising Jobcentre staff across the city to help the FC cause. The MP for Withington, who has never been to an FC game before has declared that he will attend the game and bring his contribution

Reports of fuel poverty, homeless levels and that 5,000 "excess" deaths took place in our region last winter because of the impact of the cold weather means many people welcome the chance FC has given them to help and show public support.

It’s a great opportunity to get them involved and introduce them to FC. So why not get your work colleagues, local sports clubs, voluntary groups and pubs involved? Posters are available to be downloaded from here.

All Co-operative staff can get free entry to the Ossett Game. Why not visit your local Co-op shop and invite them along? Posters are available to be downloaded from here.
