Reds still look to sparkle despite injuries

FC United will spring back into action and attempt to put the fizz back into their league campaign against Buxton this Saturday at Gigg Lane but the Reds could still be without captain David Chadwick and utility player Danny Warrender.

Chaddy faces a late fitness test to overcome a troublesome calf strain that saw him sit out both of the FA Carlsberg Trophy games against Lancaster City. Warrender is also a doubt after he pulled out in the warm up at the Giant Axe last weekend in what was supposed to be his comeback match from a pelvis problem.

If the pair fail to recover in time, last season’s youth team player of the year Nick Swirad will deputise alongside Adam Tong as he did admirably during Wednesday night’s 1-0 victory. Rob Nugent is extremely doubtful as the full extent of his injury is still being assessed.

United are boosted by the return of Adam Carden following the completion of his three match suspension for being sent-off at Stalybridge Celtic. However, Carden may find it difficult to get back in the first team straight away as Ludovic Quistin has put in three solid performances at right-back during Carden’s absence and Carlos Roca has been in form on the right wing.

United will be without striker Ben Deegan who must serve a one match ban after picking up his fifth booking of the season at Northwich Victoria so Joe Yoffe will hope to continue up front alongside Phil Marsh after scoring twice last Saturday during his first start for the club.

Dave Neville and Simon Carden will both be hoping get back into manager Karl Marginson’s midfield plans but may have their work cut out as Margy has opted for the pairing of Tunji Moses and Jake Cottrell in the centre of the park for seven of the last eight games with Cottrell making a very impressive start to his FC United career. Neville will also have to serve a one match suspension next Saturday when United travel to Hucknall for receiving two yellow cards at North Ferriby.

FC United of Manchester versus Buxton is this Saturday at Gigg Lane with kick-off 3pm. It’s pay on the gate as usual and ticket prices are £7.50 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
