The Development Fund barrels

The first collection season is now over for the Development Fund barrels and it has been a great success. Most of you will have noticed the Barrels placed strategically around Gigg Lane at all FC home games accepting loose change to help towards our annual target for the DF.

Over the season we have had a number of surprises in the Barrels, ranging from half eaten pies to an envelope containing £100, from Sri Lankan rupee notes to Christmas chocolate coins! We are continuing to accept any foreign currency which we will exchange amongst our own supporters where possible.

The totals raised each game have shown an increase throughout the season as more and more supporters have become aware of the Barrels. An obvious effort was made by a lot of people to save up their loose change each week.

The smallest total was £99.23 for the Boston game towards the beginning of the season. Before the final game against Bradford Park Avenue the highest total had been £313.41 for the Prescot Cables game, however our largest crowd of the season on the last day saw this amount more than doubled to £649.15, taking the season’s total to £4977.60.

We had no idea how successful the barrels would or wouldn’t be but thanks to the generosity of our supporters they have contributed a major amount to the DF total this season. It’s safe to say they will be reappearing next season. Thanks to everyone who has contributed.
